Date Format Update

Just a note on how the newer messages are being loading on the website now. I have been adding the current date to the message now instead of the date the message was originally preached. The reason is the Podcast Software always wants to sort by date, so when I’m adding messages that are older than the newest message, they don’t necessarily show up in the feed unless you go hunting. I’m adding the preached date to the alternate date field in the database so it is retained. Hopefully this will get a few more eyes on the newest messages that are added to the site instead of them being hidden way down the list.

Misc Speakers And Dates

Adding some miscellaneous audio files from various speakers. The latest storage tote has a lot of Bishop Grant’s recordings along with many other preachers the either spoke at events he was present for or from Camp meetings, etc. I would imaging there are a few of Sister Grant’s favorites in there as well.

Some of the older cassette’s audio recording are damaged. There are some interesting looking messages from Sis. Nona Freeman that I just cannot get to playback correctly. Sadly I’ve just set them aside for now. Others have some “warbling” and I try to make note if it in the file name that is displayed.

Any messages that do not have a date on the cassette are simply give the generic date of Jan 1, 1980.

Starting 1983 Uploads

In starting the 1983 project, I realized a few things as I was working one this… In 1983, I’m pretty sure there weren’t even CDs yet, let alone the Internet or MP3 files! Amazing as time marches on, how these messages are still relevant today! I’m pretty sure you could preach many of these messages as your own and nobody would know, but everybody would be blessed!

It is so interesting to listen to Bishop preaching and then calling on the names of some of the Saints in the congregation just to make a point or to have them stand and read the scripture. In reference to that point, there are several times that happens in the “Godhead” message. The person reading from the congregation is not picked up by the microphone, so I simply eliminated the long pauses of silence from the message. I’m sure there are some that I missed as I’m converting these message while I’m working on other projects, so that will hopefully explain a few times that a name is called on to read and then Bishop starts preaching again immediately.

If you listen to many of these messages, you will find at about the 45 minute mark a brief gap in the message. Depending on how old you are, you may or may not have an idea what causes this. It is where the recorded message on cassette auto flips to Side B. In this process, there is a bit of leader tape that cannot be recorded on, so there is usually about 3 – 5 seconds of the message that is gone forever. Unfortunately for us that did not witness all of these messages in person, this is usually the time of the message where Bishop is really emphasizing a point or getting ready to wrap up for altar call.

We are so very excited to be able to share these priceless / timeless messages with you from the audio library of Rev. John W. Grant. As we continue to convert cassettes they will be uploaded in batches. When new messages are loaded, they will be listed here in an update post.

We appreciate your prayers and patience as we work on this large project. There are literally hundreds of cassettes to convert to MP3 format and that takes time. But while you are here, you might as well listen to a message or two and be blessed!
